Most Useless Panel / Talkshow Guest

Nothing ruins your favourite programme like an ill-judged guest - or even an ill-judged regular. Australian TV's full of them (I'm looking at you, Denise Drysdale!), but despite my one-man campaign on The Face Book for her to win this award utterly failing, I'm pleased to see that Australians have chosen instead another irritating short-haired brunette, whose semi-regular appearances on several programmes in 2009 drove our voters to this...

MOST USELESS PANEL / TALKSHOW GUEST
Ruby Rose (The 7PM Project/Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation) - 57.89%
"BUT SHE'S JUST SO HOT! So I'll vote for Josh Thomas instead."
- Shannon
"I'm sorry Ruby, you're cute and smart, just not particularly entertaining or amusing."
- Marcelle
"How on EARTH am I supposed to choose between these nominees??? Well I have already voted for young Thomas so I guess I should give someone else the honour. Amanda Keller says things with the air of a woman who knows she is irrelevant and going to be ignored, so perhaps I should satisfy her expectations. So by desperately clutching at straws to assist me in a process of incredibly difficult elimination, I vote for Ruby Rose. Her contribution has the same effect whether the sound on the telly is on or off."

NOMINEES
Josh Thomas (Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation) - 36.84%
Amanda Keller (Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation) - 5.26%

Last year's winner:
Kate Langbroek on Out of the Question

Ruby Rose does a fine job interviewing the latest bands on MTV, or telling us about her dog on Twitter (it went missing recently, aaawww...), or wearing rock chick clothes (Cor, gents. Eh?), or being marketed as someone who's ten times more interesting that she actually is (She's a lesbian! WOW!), but Channel 10 were seriously expecting her to be able to comment on things? Even something as simplistic as entertainment? Or answer questions more advanced than "What was Lady Gaga's latest single?" on Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation? What were they thinking?

More to the point, what were they thinking when they didn't fire her after she said of her night at the Helpmann Awards "I didn't know what it was but Cate Blanchett was there, so it must have been pretty important." Still, at least Angela Bishop's happy: with Ruby Rose as her only rival, her job's just about locked in for life.

Josh Thomas turned up on The 7PM Project a fair bit too, stinking up the place with his highly irritating brand of himbo/Gen-Y/RANDOMS shit. Part of his problem is he has so little of interest to say - so much so that we're struggling to think of things to say about him that haven't been covered earlier. But this level of vacuousness is exactly what Channel 10 are looking for in on-air personalities, so we firmly expect to see Josh winning many more Tumblies in years to come for dull-as-dishwater projects not even the scariest parts of our brains can image.

Remember when Amanda Keller was just that blonde woman on Beyond 2000, telling us we'd all have robots in our homes doing the housework by 2010? Then along came Andrew Denton and suddenly she was supposed to be funny. Well, maybe next to Andrew Denton or Paul Fenech or Mikey Robbins she is funny, but next to Shaun Micallef? Not a hope in hell! Instead, she seems to have a strange effect on Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation, one which brings down the mood every time the cameras cut to her. Maybe one of those house-cleaning robots could be brought in instead? It's not like they're doing anything else right now.
